Aaron Ramsey will take charge of Cardiff City for the last three games of the Championship season after Omer Riza was sacked.

Riza’s time at the club came to an end after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Friday, which extended their winless run to five games.

Ramsey has been tasked with leading the Bluebirds to safety, with the club currently 23rd in the table on 42 points, one point behind Derby County in 21st.

“We’d like to thank Omer for his passion and effort during his time as Cardiff City manager and wish him the very best for his next steps in the game,” Cardiff said in a statement.

Cardiff City FC can confirm that Omer Riza has been relieved of his duties as First Team Manager.

Riza took over at Cardiff in September, taking charge of 37 league games, but won just nine of them (D14 L14), finishing with a win percentage of just 24.32%.

Ramsey, who had already been ruled out of playing for Cardiff in the run-in due to having surgery on a hamstring injury, has no managerial experience but has long-held ambitions to move into coaching, and will be supported by former Wales team-mate Chris Gunter.

His first match in the dugout will be at home against Oxford United on Monday.
