The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have waived cornerback Tre Tomlinson, who was selected by the team in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Tomlinson appeared in 15 games as a rookie and recorded 13 tackles while primarily contributing on special teams. He missed the entire 2024 season due to an undisclosed injury.
Tomlinson was a standout in college during his time at TCU, earning the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive back. He will now look to get his career back on track with a new team. If the 25-year-old clears waivers as expected, he will be able to sign immediately.
The Rams have wasted no time addressing their roster this offseason. Tomlinson joins Jonah Jackson, who was traded to the Chicago Bears, as the only departures so far.
Meanwhile, the team has re-signed Tutu Atwell and Alaric Jackson while agreeing to a restructured contract with Matthew Stafford.
Sean McVay & Les Snead addresses possibility of Cooper Kupp returning to Rams
Cooper Kupp’s future with the Rams is still uncertain, but head coach Sean McVay reiterated that the team plans to trade him this offseason.
“We’ll seek a trade,” McVay confirmed. “We’ll take it a day at a time. I know Les has had some communication with Ryan Tollner, Cooper’s agent. I’ve had dialogue with Cooper and that’s kind of where we’re at with that.”
When asked if there is still a chance that Kupp returns to the Rams, McVay didn’t rule out the possibility. “I think I would never speak in absolutes, but I do think… let’s gather all the information. We’ll take it a day at a time and we’ll see what the next steps entail,” McVay said.
Rams general manager Les Snead echoed McVay and said Kupp returning to the Rams is the least likely scenario this offseason.
“There is a scenario, but when you get into probabilities that would be the least likely,” Snead said. “I don’t want to tell you ‘no’ today and then next week he’s a Ram. You see what we’re trying to do. We’re working to try to find a partner and a next chapter for Cooper and ourselves.”
