Rams ‘Unlikely’ To Select Quarterback In 2025 NFL Draft

Matthew Stafford is set to return for his fifth season as the Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback after the sides were able to agree on a restructured contract before the start of free agency.

However, there has been talk of the team potentially selecting the 37-year-old’s successor in the 2025 NFL Draft later this month.

The Rams reportedly met with two of the top quarterback prospects in Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe. L.A. is also believed to have attended Quinn Ewers’ pro day at Texas.

As speculation continues to grow, Rams head coach Sean McVay does not believe the team will select a quarterback in this year’s draft. “I think that’s unlikely. I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t done a whole lot of work on the quarterbacks,” McVay said at the recent league meetings.

“I feel really good about where our quarterback room is, even though we’re not naive to the fact that Matthew’s hopefully got a couple more years that he wants to play, but he’s also earned the right to say ‘After this year, I’m going to go ahead and hang them up.’

“But I’m hopeful that’s not the case, but I haven’t done enough work to really have an educated opinion on that. That’s not something I would see us going – but maybe not, huh?”

As it currently stands, the Rams’ quarterback room next season will include Stafford, Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett. L.A. re-signed Garoppolo to a one-year contract last month and used a fourth-round pick on Bennett just two years ago.

It’s possible that McVay’s comments could be a smokescreen considering the extensive background work the Rams have done on some of the quarterbacks in this year’s class.

If the Rams do select a quarterback, it will likely be at the end of the first round or with one of their two picks in the third round. That would presumably take them out of the running for one of the top two signal-callers in Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

Rams head coach Sean McVay praises Jayden Daniels

Jayden Daniels quickly established himself as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL during his rookie season with the Washington Commanders.

The former No. 2 overall pick out of LSU led the Commanders to their first playoff win since 2005 and were one victory away from reaching the Super Bowl.

Daniels displayed his dual-threat ability as he threw for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 891 yards and six scores on the ground.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay believes Daniels will be one of the best quarterbacks in the league for years to come.
