Raiders Agree To One-Year Deal With RB Raheem Mostert

Last season, the Las Vegas Raiders ranked dead last in the NFL in rushing yards and yards per carry. Their leading rusher, Alexander Mattison, finished the year with just 420 yards. The team sorely needed an upgrade in the backfield, and it is doing so with former Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert.

Even though Mostert saw his role reduced last season in Miami, he was a Pro Bowler the prior season, and the Raiders will indeed be looking for him to replicate that performance as they agreed to a one-year deal with the back, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network:

Raheem Mostert tells me he’s signing a 1-year, $2.1 million deal with Raiders.

Former Dolphins RB made the Pro Bowl in 2023 rushing for over 1K yards and totaling 21 TDs. Still has good juice left for Vegas squad that wants to run the ball. pic.twitter.com/Ity5s3z3xR

One thing Mostert undoubtedly brings to the table is the speed factor. Mostert once clocked in at over 23 mph on a run back in 2020, and while he may not be able to quite get to that level of speed, he remains an absolute game-breaker who can reel off big plays on any carry. That big-play ability is something the Raiders lacked last season and will help this offense immensely under new coach Pete Carroll.

Mostert totaled just 278 rushing yards last season with the Dolphins, along with another 161 through the air, as the team turned to second-year back De’Von Achane as the primary ball carrier. But in 2023, Mostert was a Pro Bowler with 1,012 rushing yards and 21 total touchdowns, and the Raiders certainly believe he still has plenty left to contribute as they look to remake this offense and move the ball on the ground.

The Raiders will almost certainly be using a committee backfield approach, but with Mostert joining Sincere McCormick, who was impressive down the stretch of last season, this team should be much better on the ground in 2025.

Raiders sign safety Jeremy Chinn to two-year deal

The Raiders have already made a big addition on the defensive side of the ball, signing former Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Chinn to a two-year deal. This comes after the team lost Tre’von Moehrig in free agency, as he joined the Carolina Panthers.

Chinn is coming off arguably his best season as a pro in his lone season in Washington, totaling 117 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five passes defensed and two sacks.
