Poona Ford Signed With Rams Despite Competitive Offer From Chargers

One of the Los Angeles Rams’ first signings at the start of free agency was defensive tackle Poona Ford, an underrated veteran that last played for the L.A. Chargers.

After inking a three-year contract, Ford will join a young and talented Rams defensive line that came on strong at the end of last year. With him and some other quality additions, the Rams have legit Super Bowl aspirations in 2025 and beyond.

Ford’s former team also has Super Bowl aspirations and even plays in the same city. According to Chargers reporter Alex Insdorf, they also made a competitive offer for Ford and he instead chose the Rams:

Chargers GM Joe Hortiz says Poona Ford chose to go to the Rams, but that they felt they made a competitive offer.

Ford choosing to leave the Chargers for the Rams says a lot about what he feels Sean McVay and Les Snead are building in L.A.

With guys like Ford, Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske clogging up the middle and Jared Verse and Byron Young rushing from the outside, the Rams have a chance to build a special defensive front. Even though the Chargers are a quality team too, it’s hard to fault Ford for wanting to be a part of what the Rams are doing.

Poona Ford explains why he signed with Rams

Poona Ford chose to sign with the Rams early in free agency and explained why he felt like that was the right decision for him.

“It kind of happened really quick. They were really aggressive in the process and I just felt like this was where I needed to be,” Ford said of joining the Rams.

Ford added that playing in Southern California was a priority for him.

“More than I thought it would, honestly,” he answered when asked if he wanted to remain in Southern California. “I like it out here, out west. Being from South Carolina, there’s just something about [being] out west that makes me want to stay.”
