Paige Spiranac is currently the most famous influencer golf figure, with a large fan base and with a lot of followers. However, building a career on social media was not easy, especially in the period when social media was not so popular.
The 31-year-old golf instructor and influencer was a guest on “Quiet Please!” podcast, sharing her hard moments, recalling the moment when she received an invitation to play in the LET tournament, as a professional.
Interestingly, Paige calls this the worst moment of her life.
“Yeah, that was like the worst moment of my life,” Spiranac said, as quoted by Athlon Sports.
“I’ll never forget that.”
Although she always dreamed of being a star on golf courses and playing golf professionally, life took her in a different direction. After becoming viral, Spiranac attracted the attention of golf fans, but the hatred she faced and negative comments were not easy to bear, especially when you are a young person with a fragile ego.
“I finished college out and I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I always wanted to play professionally but mentally I couldn’t handle it… I ended up going viral and this was back when people didn’t go viral all the time.”- she said.
Brutal rumors of the time
Her popularity grew rapidly, and the invitation that followed from LET caused her amazement in the initial stages. Realizing your dream and playing professional golf is a moment you will surely never forget. Still..
“I went from 500 followers to 100,000 followers. So, I got this invite to play an LET (Ladies European Tour) event. I had just turned pro and had not played golf outside the country,” Spiranac continued.
I show up and was doing hours of press… there were a couple of girls who were really supportive, but the majority, it was brutal. I would go on the range and girls would scatter.
There were constant comments like ‘I did s***** favors to get this invite,’ within earshot I was listening to. It was tough,” she concluded.
The famous influencer understands the reactions of some golfers considering it was difficult to secure a place in tournaments, while she had an easy path to it. The 31-year-old pointed out that there was a lot of pressure, as if her appearance was the most important thing in the world.
However, that phase is over, and Paige now knows how to deal with various rumors and pressures.
