The membership’s official Supporters Board has reacted to Liverpool chairman Tom Werner‘s “concept” to play Premier League video games in New York.

Werner angered many followers when he informed the Monetary Occasions that he’s “decided at some point to have a Premier League recreation be performed in New York Metropolis.”

Clearly, this hasn’t been acquired nicely and Liverpool’s Supporters Board, which is enshrined within the membership’s Articles of Affiliation, have reacted by contacting the membership to hunt reassurances.

Anybody decided to play aggressive LFC Premier League matches overseas ought to keep in mind that we as followers are decided they don’t. There’s a lot of issues that want to vary in soccer – ticket costs, an unbiased regulator, monetary equity and extra. The place we play doesn’t!

The supporters board stated on X:

“On behalf of the Supporters Board, our chair (Joe Blott) has spoken on to the membership.

“They’ve informed us that Tom Werner’s remark was a private concept, not LFC’s, which might solely be put ahead for consideration if it was proper for everybody, together with and most significantly, supporters.

“It’s not one thing the membership is contemplating. Even then, they’ve reassured us it will be topic to session with our Supporters Board, according to our supporters board settlement.

“The Supporters Board will clearly preserve a cautious watch on this problem.”

Fortunately, this does appear to be the reality and there isn’t a right away hazard of them performing on Werner’s concept, particularly given principal proprietor John Henry “isn’t notably occupied with” it.

Liverpool pushing to play residence matches away from Anfield would undoubtedly come beneath the remit of the Supporters Board that was arrange in 2022.

Blott, who’s chairman of the board, informed This Is Anfield: “For any existential points that have an effect on the soccer membership, so a floor share, a floor transfer or a transfer to a breakaway league, can’t occur with out fan consent.”

Whereas that’s excellent news for supporters, it’s nonetheless irritating to know the chairman of Liverpool, Werner, holds such views.

He informed the Monetary Occasions: “Let’s determine a option to supply them very low-cost journey [and] lodging in order that if Liverpool is enjoying Nottingham Forest, we’ll assist followers coming to New York.

“[Let’s] make this a pretty factor for the followers as nicely.”

How about making tickets at Anfield reasonably priced first, earlier than trying to fly us over the Atlantic?
