The chase for the eighth Wimbledon title has begun!

Novak Djokovic is through to the second round of this year’s Wimbledon after beating Frenchman Alexandre Muller (ATP #41) in four sets, 6–1, 6–7 (7), 6–2, 6–2. The match lasted three hours and 19 minutes.

Novak was in full control during the first set, which lasted just 30 minutes. Even though he missed three break points in the very first game, he quickly found his rhythm. He broke Muller’s serve three times and easily won the set 6–1 to take a 1–0 lead.

The second set was much tighter affair. Novak had eight break point chances, but his rival saved them all and pushed the set into a tie-break. Djokovic was leading 5–2 in the tie-break and had two serves to close it out, but Muller made a big comeback and won it 9–7 to tie the match at one set all.

In the third set, Novak stepped up again. He was more aggressive and controlled the rallies, breaking Muller twice to take the set 6–2 and lead 2–1.

Muller had his first two break points of the match early in the fourth set but couldn’t take them. Novak responded right away by breaking his serve, and then did it again to go up 5–2. He finished the match confidently and moved on to the next round.

In the second round on Thursday, Novak will face Dan Evans (ATP no.154). The Brit received a wildcard entry into the tournament.
