Novak Djokovic has kicked off his quest for a fourth Roland Garros crown in commanding fashion.
In the first round of the Paris Grand Slam, the world No. 6 eased past American Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets, 6–3, 6–3, 6–3, needing just under two hours on Court Philippe-Chatrier to seal the win.
Djokovic controlled the match from start to finish, showing little sign of fluctuation. With a dominant serve, pinpoint returns, and a varied all-court game, he left McDonald with no real chances to challenge.
He took the opening set with a break in the sixth game, then made an early move in the second set with a break in the first game, later doubling his lead to go up 5–2. Although McDonald managed to recover one break, Djokovic quickly shut the door. The third set followed a similar pattern, with a decisive break in the sixth game paving the way for a routine finish.
In the second round on Thursday, Novak will face the winner of the all-French clash between Corentin Moutet and qualifier Clement Tabur.
