Nottingham Forest have reportedly set their sights on prolific Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is also of interest to Manchester United.
United have made signing a striker one of their main priorities this summer and Gyokeres’ name has repeatedly come up.
Gyokeres has been in fine form this season, plundering an impressive 28 goals and six assists in 25 league appearances. Across all competitions, he has managed 40 strikers and two assists.
Unsurprisingly, his goalscoring exploits have made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. In addition to United, he has also been linked to Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Now, FootballTransfers reports that Forest have entered the fray for the Sweden international’s signature.
It’s understood that Forest – who are currently third in the Premier League standings and on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League – have “initiated contact” with Gyokeres and his representatives.
FootballTransfers note, “Owner Evangelos Marinakis and manager Nuno Espírito Santo see the Sporting CP forward as the ideal long-term successor to Chris Wood, who turns 34 in December.”
“With Champions League qualification now a real possibility, Marinakis is determined to keep pushing the club forward.”
It’s understood that Gyokeres is not opposed to the idea of sealing a switch to the City Ground.
The 26-year-old talisman is “intrigued” by the prospect of joining Forest and helping supercharge their efforts to re-establish themselves as one of England’s elite outfits.
Marinakis believes signing Gyokeres would be a real statement of intent – an idea that would be reinforced if Forest were to beat the likes of United to his services.
Gyokeres is expected to cost around €58m.
