Not Vinicius, not Jude Bellingham – Kylian Mbappe left speechless by surprise Real Madrid hero at FIFA Club World Cup

Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign has been a showcase of brilliance, with big names like Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham naturally commanding attention. But in a twist few expected, one rising star has emerged as the revelation of the tournament—catching even Kylian Mbappe off guard.

As Real Madrid navigated their group stage matches in the United States, this young talent not only stepped up in the absence of marquee forwards, but did so in such spectacular fashion that it may alter the club’s long-term plans.

Gonzalo Garcia, the 19-year-old Castilla product, has taken the Club World Cup by storm. In just three matches, he has scored two goals and provided one assist, turning heads with every appearance.

Despite not traveling with the squad due to illness, Mbappe was glued to the screen during Madrid’s 3-0 win over Salzburg, where Gonzalo once again made his mark. The French superstar couldn’t contain his admiration.

“This kid is incredible, he is very good, he scores, passes, runs… he does everything,” Mbappe reportedly said in a message to the locker room, as relayed by Marca. It’s a telling endorsement from one of the world’s finest, and a clear indication that Gonzalo is more than just a temporary solution—he’s a player with the potential to make a lasting impact at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Change in plans?

Originally, Real Madrid had planned to send Gonzalo out on loan following the tournament to gain more playing time. But his performances in the United States may have reshaped those discussions.

“There are still no decisions regarding the next season. We are focused on the Club World Cup. Obviously the Club World Cup is telling you things, but there is no decision,” said manager Xabi Alonso when asked about the striker’s future.

The absence of Endrick and Mbappe has opened the door, and Gonzalo has seized the opportunity. His sharp movement, positional awareness, and instinctive finishing have added a new dimension to Madrid’s attack—so much so that the team hasn’t felt the absence of their French talisman.
