Micah Parsons is set to enter his rookie contract’s fifth and final year. The Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher has earned Pro Bowl honors in his first four seasons, while earning All-Pro honors in his first three seasons.
While he battled injuries and missed four games, Parsons finished with 12.0 sacks and likely would have set a career high if not for the time he missed. His 52.5 sacks since entering the league are the fifth-most over that span.
Despite the uncertainty of his contract situation, the 12th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft surprised fans when he showed up to minicamp. First-year Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer recently shared high praise for Parsons, which one NFL insider believes will lead him to succeed in his new role.
NFL Insider Praises How Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Has Handled Micah Parsons’ Contract Situation
While Parsons remains in a contract standoff with the Cowboys’ front office, one NFL insider believes first-year head coach Schottenheimer has handled the situation well. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated discussed the situation, writing:
“I think Brian Schottenheimer has a good shot to make it as Dallas Cowboys coach and, to me, the Micah Parsons situation is a great illustration of why… While Schottenheimer had plenty of challenges to conquer upon getting the job in January, there’s little question that the lingering contract situation surrounding Parsons was way up the list.”
“The sides didn’t make much headway toward a deal in 2024 when he was first eligible to land an outsized second contract. Then, as ’25 talks started in March, owner Jerry Jones saying he’d never heard of agent David Mulugheta, which certainly didn’t help matters… “This relationship I’ve developed with Micah is very evident in the fact that anything I’ve asked him to do, he’s done,” Schottenheimer says. “He’s been great.”
Schottenheimer previously praised Parsons for showing up to camp despite being in the middle of contract negotiations. Todd Archer of ESPN shared his comments, tweeting:

It is unclear how far apart Parsons and the Cowboys are in contract negotiations. Both sides have expressed that they hope to get a deal done before the beginning of the season. While the star pass rusher has not revealed any plans to hold out, it remains to be seen if that stance will change if no deal is reached.
