Writing the pre-NFL Draft scouting reports is one of my favorite things to do at this time of year. I’ve nailed it down with these notable Seattle Seahawks draft picks over the past few seasons: Byron Murphy II, Christian Haynes, Tyrice Knight, Devon Witherspoon, Zach Charbonnet, Olu Oluwatimi, Kenny McIntosh, Boye Mafe, Abe Lucas, and Riq Woolen.
As part of our NFL Draft preview, we’ll be taking a closer look at a wide range of prospects, including projected Round 1 picks all the way to Day 3/UDFA options. Today we’re analyzing Nebraska defensive lineman Ty Robinson, who is reportedly meeting with the Seahawks in an official 30 visit.
Let’s get to the report!

Background
He has played 60 games in his six years at Nebraska, tied for the most in school history. He had a redshirt season in 2019, and 2020 gave him an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19. Robinson has always had an aggressive mindset, but it wasn’t until 2024 that he was able to turn that into good numbers. His seven sacks and his various alignments, from 0-tech to 5-tech, are worth highlighting.
Evaluating the prospect…
Versatility
Nebraska has used him in basically every possible alignment. In addition, they have mixed his technique with 1-gap, 1.5-gap and 2-gap. Here, lining up as 0-Tech, NT, he “jumps” to the A gap, absorbs the double block and forces the RB to cut. His pad level is not the best and if his arms were longer he might have been able to make the tackle.
Again as 0-Tech, but this time attacking the gap, where I think he feels more comfortable. He gets the infiltration against an elite duo (C and LG) from Ohio State.
1-Tech, again he attacks the gap, this time using his club move that fits perfectly with his aggressive mentality and first step.
3-Tech, another good pass rush move combo. Club and swim, he gets the clear path to the QB, but his aggressiveness makes him miss the sack, but the pressure is there.
Basically a 5-Tech alignment. He threatens the OT outside, only while preparing his club move to have a path to the QB.
He lines up between the OT and the OG but his target is the center. He has excellent pad level on this snap and can get to the QB.
He is so versatile that he could be the fullback that Klint Kubiak is looking for (contains irony).
Football IQ
Obviously you won’t draft a DL based on the number of deflected passes. But Robinson has good intelligence to see where the ball is going and has the timing to deflect the pass.
His eyes are focused on the ball while attacking opponents. Exactly what you want from your DLs.
Rarely loses sight of the ball carrier.
Explosiveness
The Combine tests went better than expected. Robinson isn’t that great of an athlete on the field, but he’s not a bad athlete. His first step is incredible and matches the explosiveness of his jumps.
Good first step to escape the OL and speed to reach the RB. It is worth remembering that his 40-yard dash was in 4.83s, the same time as Xavier Restrepo who is 80 lbs lighter (albeit while carrying an injury).
Pad Level
Pad level and balance are the main points he needs to work on at the next level.
A high pad level hinders his infiltration. He compensates by keeping the QB in his sights and is able to force the fumble fighting until the end.
At times his eagerness to reach the QB prevents his discipline to maintain the correct pad level.
STRENGTHS:
– First step;
– Engine always hot;
– Versatility in alignments;
– Leadership;
– Many games as a starter;
WEAKNESSES:
– Pad Level;
– Arm Length is not ideal;
– 7 missed tackles in 2024, due to excessive aggressiveness;
– He is an older player, with only one outstanding season (out of 6) who will play his rookie season at 24 years old;
Final Thoughts
I strongly believe that the Seahawks would’ve been interested in bringing Roy Robertson-Harris on a reduced contract after the cut. However, he soon signed with the New York Giants and was out of the market. Robinson could be an immediate replacement for RRH. He’s a versatile defensive lineman who’s an awesome fit in Mike Macdonald defense and is always fighting in the trenches and opening up space for his teammates. Furthermore, he is capable of defending the run and getting after the QB, even if he needs refinement in these two phases of the game.
