The Seattle Seahawks have four picks on Day 2, among the most capital to spend in Rounds 2 and 3.
With 50, 52, 82 and 92 coming up, and offensive guard finally and miraculously addressed, let’s take a look at some of the best remaining players. Seattle still has a pocket of big needs, and offensive line will likely show itself one more time before the draft wraps up, but Grey Zabel lessens the likelihood that one of these Round 2 picks will be on the offensive line.
Most Interesting Available (The QBs plus one friend)
Shedeur Sanders – A Will Levis-type repeat on draft day was not a common prediction, and it’s just another notch in the belt of the media circus that surrounds the Sanders family. I don’t envy that aspect of the situation at all. But I expect the question “how far would Sanders have to fall to make it worthwhile” to be asked for the remainder of the time he’s on the board.
Jalen Milroe – Milroe to Seattle at 18 was a stupid suggestion made by annoying click-hunters. Now that we’ve collectively dodged that bullet, discussion of him will also continue to climb as the night nears an end. I can’t see him in the second, the media will talk about him in the third, and if Schneider feels like they’ve crushed their first three picks, you start to wonder.
Nick Emmanwori – It’s Kyle Hamilton 2.0! Apparently not, falling at this point 20 picks below a slew of predictions. I’d expect him to go early Round 2, but the Hawks have ability to move if he makes it into the 40s.
Best Available at Positions of Need
Mike Green, EDGE – Was more than a bit surprised that he didn’t go to the Cincinnati Bengals after seeing him mocked there about as much as Zabel was to Seattle. However, he has serious allegations against him and that clearly impacted his draft stock.
Will Johnson, CB – An unfortunate fall for a potential top-10 prospect had he come out a year ago. Now, word is there is significant concern about his knee, keeping him on the board into the second round.
Pass Catchers to Consider at 50 and 52
A trio of receivers might be a great target in the middle of the evening.
Jayden Higgins – 6’4”, 215. Not as fast as DK Metcalf but better at high-pointing the jump balls.
Jaylin Noel – Super fast Senior Bowl standout. Need we say more?
Jack Beck – 6’1” out of TCU, profiles somewhat in between the two Iowa State guys above. Strong, yards after catch potential.
The Ends, They’re Tight
Elijah Arroyo and Mason Taylor are the two tight ends that should go early tonight. Ranked 38 and 50 on the Consensus Big Board, they’d be a consolation prize as Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland went so early.
However, I’d be even more intrigued with a round later taking Terrance Ferguson. He’s the fastest tight end in the class this year and projects to be available later into the third round.
Seattle will be one of the most active teams on Day 2, and I am looking forward to see how Schneider follows up the first step of rejuvenating the offense.
