The Miami Dolphins have added a veteran tight end to their roster on Friday. First reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Miami is signing Pharaoh Brown adding a solid in-line tight end who can work both as a blocker and receiver.

Brown began his career as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon, signing with the Oakland Raiders in 2017. He moved to the Cleveland Browns from 2018 through 2019 before a sting from 2020 into 2022 with the Houston Texans. When the Texans waived Brown during the 2022 season, Cleveland claimed him off waivers, returning him to the team.

He spent training camp in 2023 with the Indianapolis Colts before signing with the New England Patriots for the season. He spent 2024 with the Seattle Seahawks.

He has appeared in 87 games over his seven-year career, including 54 starts. He has 72 receptions for 751 yards with three touchdowns.

Mookie Alexander at SB Nation’s Seahawks team site, Field Gulls, wrote of Brown’s year in Seattle:

Brown was brought in to be an in-line blocking tight end who could occasionally receive passes. He caught 8 passes for 65 yards and no touchdowns on 12 targets, losing a fumble on a designed screen pass against the Chicago Bears. Beyond his minimal contributions as a pass-catcher, he also committed five penalties combined between offense and special teams. His four holding penalties were the most among all tight ends.

Was 2024 a down year for a solid player, or did it expose something in Brown’s game that needs to be corrected? The Dolphins will find out in 2025.
