Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Boca Juniors’ 23-year-old midfielder Kevin Zenon this summer, with the Argentine club open to a potential sale.
Newcastle’s Pursuit of Zenon Gains Momentum
According to Boca Noticias, Newcastle United have maintained their interest in Kevin Zenon and are expected to submit an offer soon. Boca Juniors, while valuing their young midfielder, are not determined to keep him at all costs. Club legend and current vice president Juan Roman Riquelme is seemingly open to selling Zenon for the right price, aware of the Magpies’ growing interest.
Zenon was linked with a move to Europe during the January transfer window, but no deal materialised. Despite being a regular in Boca’s squad, the arrival of manager Fernando Gago has seen his role diminish, further increasing the likelihood of a summer departure.
A European Move on the Horizon?
Several clubs showed interest in Zenon before the January window, and Boca’s willingness to negotiate may reignite interest from those sides. Newcastle, however, remain one of the frontrunners for his signature. The Argentine giants have yet to set an official price tag but will likely seek a fee higher than what they paid Union to acquire him.
Newcastle Aiming to Strengthen Their Attack
Eddie Howe’s side is on the lookout for reinforcements in wide areas, especially after Miguel Almiron’s departure in January. The Magpies lack depth in the left-footed winger department, making Zenon a viable addition to the squad.
Newcastle have also been linked with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, but a move for Zenon could provide valuable squad depth. Boca Juniors’ asking price is not expected to be a significant obstacle, meaning negotiations could progress swiftly if Newcastle formalise their interest. The coming weeks will reveal whether Zenon makes the switch to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season.
