When you think about the New York Yankees, success and tradition are the first things that come to mind. Over the years, legends like Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Aaron Judge have led the team. Given their popularity, you’d expect the Yankees to dominate merchandise sales. However, heading into the 2025 season, they have only two players in the top 20.
New York Yankees Only Have 2 Players in Top 20 of Jersey Sales
MLB.com released the top 20 players in jersey sales heading into this season. Judge was ranked fifth behind Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Juan Soto, and Mookie Betts. The reigning AL MVP’s jersey remains a highly sought-after commodity among all MLB fans as one of the faces of baseball.
The other Yankee on the list is shortstop Anthony Volpe (No. 19). That may surprise some, but playing shortstop for the Yankees is one of the most high-profile positions in sports.
Volpe enters 2025 with high expectations. He struggled at the plate last season, hitting .243 with 12 home runs and 60 RBIs. His OPS was .657, but he was a factor on the basepaths, stealing 28 bases.
Through his first two MLB seasons, Volpe has had issues offensively, but his defense has been a bright spot. He won a Gold Glove as a rookie in 2023, and while the Yankees expect him to improve as a hitter, his glove gives him value in the lineup.
This list accounts for sales of Nike jerseys from the Fanatics network of sites, including MLBShop.com, since the culmination of the 2024 World Series. Francisco Lindor (No. 6), Bryce Harper (No. 7), Jose Altuve (No. 8), Ronald Acuña Jr. (No. 9), and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (No. 10) rounded out the top 10.
Yankees Have a Top Offense in Baseball
If you look at each team’s first series, you will see the Yankees are once again one of the top offenses in the sport. They scored 36 runs in the first three games and hit 15 home runs. It is hard to have a much better start than that to the season.
Even after losing Juan Soto this offseason, the Yankees have not missed a beat. Thanks to their potent lineup, this team should again be contenders for the World Series. While their torpedo bats have dominated conversations, the Yankees’ batters have been just as crucial as their bats.
Like most teams, their success will be determined by how healthy they can stay. The Yankees will go as far as Judge can take them, and he should be in for another MVP-caliber season. This only adds to his already lucrative jersey sales.
