Nate Diaz has boldly claimed that he was approached first for a Road House movie role before they went for their second choice, Conor McGregor.
‘The Notorious’ was lauded for his portrayal of Knox in the 2024 reimagining of the cult classic Road House movie. Many believe the character was perfect for the Irishman’s big-screen debut, insisting that Knox’s characteristics and personality closely resembled his real-life self.
Despite the role feeling ideal for Conor McGregor, it may have originally been proposed to somebody else. According to Nate Diaz, he was approached before McGregor to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House.
While the acting venture would have been lucrative, the controversial Diaz is thought to have turned down the opportunity for a bizarre reason.
“I was supposed to do Conor McGregor’s part in Road House,” Diaz claimed during a recent podcast appearance. “Yeah, that was my part.”
“But, like, I’m not fighting. So, I’m the main bad guy, I’m supposed to fight. Okay, who’s Patrick Swayze then?”
“They said it was Jake Gyllenhaal, and I’m like, ‘I ain’t going in no movie and losing to no Brokeback Mountain.'”
“I said, ‘I can’t see it, I can’t do it. I ain’t losing to nobody in no fight.'”
Overall, Road House was a huge success. The movie managed to attract over 50 million viewers worldwide in its first two weekends, becoming Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched original ever.

Unlike its 1989 version, the record-breaking newer release of Road House followed Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter-turned-bouncer who attempts to rid his town in Florida of a notorious crime boss.
The movie has received mixed reviews from viewers, with some pleasantly surprised by its quality, while others were disappointed with the different approach this film took compared to the original.
Road House is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
