This Day in Track & Field, July 2, Lon Myers breaks his WR for 880 yards (1881), written and compiled by Walt Murphy

Wilson clocks 72:13 as Ahmed runs 63:13 at popular event in South Wales on Sunday

SWANSEA UNIVERSITY HALF-MARATHON, South Wales, June 7

Omar Ahmed again got the better of local favourite Dewi Griffiths when winning by nearly two minutes in 63:13.

Further down the field, Swansea’s Alan Davies hacked over a minute from David Phillips previously unrecognised M70 82:54 from 2015 with an 81:51 clocking.

The women’s race saw Natasha Wilson win in 72:13 from Louise Small’s 72:59. The former Natasha Cockram repeated her victory here from 2022 when running 72:48 after a 70:47 earlier that year in Cardiff. That was followed by a 2:26:14 in Valencia in December 2022 whereas she ran 2:27:12 this April in Hamburg.

Back in fourth, Anna Harrold went second on the W40 all-time lists with a 74:14 personal best.

Not too far down, British W55 all-time best holder Karima Harris was a couple of minutes outside her previous mark, but 79:32 is still a top class W55 effort.
