Al-Hilal, Al Ain, Al Ahly: Why do 2025 FIFA Club World Cup participants from the Middle East have ‘Al’ in their names?

Juventus are set to sack head coach Thiago Motta, with former defender Igor Tudor to take charge until the end of the season.

Motta has endured a difficult debut campaign in charge of the Bianconeri. Appointed from Bologna last summer, Juventus have endured an up-and-down season and the Italian side’s board are now set to make change.

Juventus’ Board decisions:

▪️Sell Barrenechea for €8M▪️Sell Huijsen for €15M▪️Sell Soulé for €21M▪️Buy Douglas Luiz for €51M▪️Sell players against the manager’s wishes▪️Sack Tiago Motta in March (1 point off Champions League places)

Consecutive heavy defeats to Atalanta and Fiorentina have seen Juventus drop out of the Champions League places and a decision will be made to dismiss Motta. His 52 points won after 29 games is the lowest of any Juventus coach across the last five seasons. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the latter will be informed of the decision in the coming days.

Igor Tudor is set to take the role until the end of the campaign, with the Croatian expected to fly in to Turin to finalise a deal.

Tudor won two Serie A titles during his playing career at Juventus, for who he made 174 appearances across two spells.

The 46-year-old was most recently in charge of Serie A rivals Lazio, having replaced Maurizio Sarri on a short-term deal last season. He resigned in Rome following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

Zinedine Zidane and Roberto Mancini have been circulated as potential permanent successors to Motta in Turin.

Motta’s impending exit from Juventus will conclude a tenure that has seen the Italian’s stock fall sharply.

Last summer, the 42-year-old was recognised as one of Europe’s hottest coaching properties having led Bologna to Champions League qualification for the first time since 1964/65.
