Fiorentina have reportedly drawn up a new bold plan to ensure Manchester United and other suitors have no chance whatsoever of signing Moise Kean this summer.

Kean on United’s radar

It’s an open secret that United are on the hunt for a new striker following a goal-shy 2024/25 campaign, with Kean one of the players they are closely following.

United are eager to sign Kean despite his past difficulties in the Premier League, which saw him score just four goals in 39 appearances during a turbulent spell with Everton.

He went on to spend time on loan at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, before joining the latter in a permanent deal in 2023. He didn’t reach the heights expected of him in Turin, prompting the club to offload him to fellow Serie A side Fiorentina.

La Viola snapped up Kean for a mere €13m, which now looks like a steal. He underlined his potential and quality last season, scoring 25 goals in 44 appearances, including 19 in 32 Serie A games, making him the league’s second top scorer.

It’s understood United have been making frequent checks on the player ahead of a possible swoop. Kean is open to completing a switch to Old Trafford, perhaps because he feels he has unfinished business in the Premier League.

But United are not the only party pursuing the 25-year-old. He is also wanted by Al Qadsiah, who have already presented him with a lucrative offer, and Al-Hilal.

Kean is protected by a €52m release clause, which expires on July 15. After this, Fiorentina will be free to demand whatever sum they want for the player.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Fiorentina are hoping this deadline elapses so they can have more control over Kean’s future.

Fiorentina planning to offer Kean a new deal with a higher or even no release clause

CDS confirm that Kean’s release clause does indeed expire on July 15. They’re banking on nothing unexpected happening until then, after which they’ll have greater control over what happens with Kean.

If United or a suitor come forward for Kean, then Fiorentina would have 48 hours to present the player with a counteroffer, in an effort to persuade him that the Stadio Artemio Franchi is the best place for him. This situation likely leaves Fiorentina in a vulnerable position, as they’re unlikely to match offers from clubs like United and Al-Hilal.

The report adds, “For now, Fiorentina is holding on tight to its 25-goal striker and continues to fine-tune its plan for after July 15.”

“The club has a two-fold plan. [First], if they receive an offer for Moise after mid-month, they will have 48 hours to present a counteroffer to convince the player that Florence is better than anywhere else.”

“[Secondly], as soon as the clause expires, Fiorentina will put a new contract on the table for the striker born in 2000. This would include doubling his salary (from the current €2.2m to around €4m) and removing the release clause altogether, or at least raising it so high that it discourages any future potential buyer.”

CDS name Al-Hilal as “the biggest threat” to Fiorentina’s plans, as Kean’s release clause would barely make a dent in their budget.

However, they note that United are also lurking and could strike.
