Mohamed Salah rejects Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi Pro League to sign new Liverpool deal—All the Premier League records he has in sight

Anfield, a place already synonymous with legendary feats and unforgettable moments, has just secured two more years of Mohamed Salah magic. On Friday, Liverpool officially announced that their Egyptian talisman has signed a new contract, extending his stay until June 2027. It brings an end to months of speculation and signals a firm commitment from both the club and the player to keep chasing silverware — and history — together.

For Salah, the decision was driven by ambition. “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before we also had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies,” the veteran told the club’s official website. “It’s great. I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10.”

Salah had entered the final months of his existing deal, and there was growing fear among fans that he might walk away from Anfield for free at the end of the season. Rumors of a move to Saudi Arabia, where Cristiano Ronaldo reigns, or other European giants had intensified, particularly as he remained tight-lipped about his future throughout the campaign. But now, with this extension, Liverpool not only keeps one of its greatest ever players but also retains its competitive edge going into a summer of transition and rebuilding.

The records in sight: Shot at immortality

Salah’s new deal isn’t just about loyalty — it’s also about legacy. With 243 goals and 111 assists in 394 appearances, the Egyptian is already the club’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, trailing only Roger Hunt (274 goals) and Ian Rush (339 goals). But those are not the only records that may soon fall.

Premier League’s top foreign goalscorer

Salah is now level with Sergio Aguero on 184 Premier League goals, the most by any non-English player. One more goal will see him take that record outright, placing him fourth in the all-time Premier League scoring charts. Andy Cole (187), Wayne Rooney (208), and Harry Kane (213) are all within reach — though Alan Shearer’s seemingly unreachable 260 goals remain the Everest of English soccer.

Most goal contributions in a Premier League season

With 27 goals and 17 assists this season, Salah currently has 44 goal contributions, which is already the record in a 42-game Premier League season. He needs just four more to surpass the all-time mark of 47, shared by Shearer and Cole in the mid-90s.

Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer

While Salah will almost certainly leapfrog Roger Hunt, overtaking Ian Rush’s 339 goals will require 96 more — a towering challenge. Still, if Salah maintains his current pace — he’s already on 32 goals this season — and Liverpool make deep runs in all competitions, this dream is not out of reach.

Most Premier League goals at a single stadium

With 103 goals at Anfield, Salah is only 11 goals behind Wayne Rooney (106 at Old Trafford) and 12 behind Thierry Henry (114 at Highbury). Adding that record to his resume would further cement Anfield as the stage of his most glorious performances.

Most Premier League assists for Liverpool

Salah currently has 86 Premier League assists — 85 of which came with Liverpool. Steven Gerrard holds the club record with 92. The Egyptian needs just eight more to eclipse one of Liverpool’s most iconic figures in yet another statistical category.
