A women’s flyweight bout between former two-time strawweight titleholder Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick served as last Saturday’s UFC Atlanta co-main event.
It was a competitive fight but Namajunas did enough to warrant a unanimous decision victory. She seemingly knocked Maverick down in the third round, but Maverick maintained in her statement that, ‘I never got dropped.’ She also revealed that she tore an ACL in the second round.
“Not the result I wanted but I fought with what I had. My ACL was torn in the second round (i’ll have to rewatch to know exactly when but I think it was during a takedown exchange). I never got dropped, but I was unstable on my legs so as soon as I got hit in the third round my leg buckled,” Maverick wrote on Instagram.
“I’m blessed I was able to make it to the end of the fight and I’m honored that I got to share the cage with the legend @rosenamajuna,” continued Maverick. “I’ll take this lay off in stride and you will see me again! But for now time to recover and figure some things out.”

The loss to Namajunas snapped a four-fight winning streak for 27 year-old. She entered the bout at State Farm Arena ranked No. 11 in the division but won’t likely drop in the rankings. Namajunas was ranked No. 7 with much more big fight, main event experience.
Maverick thanked her coaches, family, and the fight promotion and feels ‘blessed’ to have gotten the opportunity.
“Thank you to my coaches, training partners, managers, fans, and of course my family for being in my corner and always caring about me over the results! Thank you @ufc @mickmaynard2 for giving me an experience such as this,” she wrote. “I’m blessed to have these kind of opportunities and live the life that I do! Praise The Lord my Rock!”
