Daniil Medvedev has dropped down aiming to step up.
Playing an ATP-250 event for the first time since 2023, Medvedev defeated French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the Marseille quarterfinals for the fourth time.

The top-seeded Medvedev is playing for his first title since he won the 2023 Rome.
The 2021 Marseille champion is also bidding to win the same tournament title twice. All 20 of Medvedev’s titles have come at 20 different tournaments.
Next up for Medvedev is Jan-Lennard Struff.
World No. 46 Struff stropped French qualifier Hugo Grenier 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
China’s Zhizhen Zhang toppled fourth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-3. Zhang cracked 10 aces and saved all three break points he faced in a two hour, eight minute win.
