Agustin Ramirez has been everything the Miami Marlins could have hoped for thus far.
The 23-year-old catcher has been on fire to start his major league career. After going 2-4 with a home run and a double in the Marlins’ 8-4 victory over the Mariners on Friday, Ramirez has seven hits in his first 10 at-bats with four doubles, a home run, three RBI and a stolen base. Ramirez has also done this in just three games.
That start is also unprecedented in known MLB history (since 1901). The list of players with at least seven hits, including at least five extra-base hits, in their first three games is: Agustin Ramirez.
Outfielder Emmet Heidrick and first baseman Frank Dillon are listed as having done so in 1901; however, both Heidrick and Dillion played in a time before game logs are available.
Ramirez overcame a slow start to his professional career to explode up the rankings as a prospect in 2024. He posted a .267/.358/.487 batting line in 548 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting 25 homers and 26 doubles while stealing 22 bases. That impressive performance led to Ramirez being the top prospect received as part of the return from the Yankees for infielder Jazz Chisholm.
Ramirez may also be what the Marlins need. Continued mediocrity during a never-ending rebuilding process and a lack of ownership spending have led to the Marlins averaging just under 12,000 fans per game over the last decade. Ramirez is an exciting young talent who may well be a cornerstone player. His hot start has put a positive spotlight on the Marlins and a surprisingly competitive roster.
Ramirez is off to a historically hot start for his career. He may be what the Marlins need looking toward the future.
