Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has insisted the club have extended their support to Geyse after her agent accused them of trying to loan her out to American clubs while she was attending her brother’s funeral.

Geyse made her first appearance for United in 2025 last weekend, as the Red Devils beat Leicester City 2-0 in a Women’s Super League clash.

She had just returned from compassionate leave, having been permitted to go to her homeland for her brother’s funeral, who sadly passed away in January.

After the final whistle, Geyse posted a poignant message on Instagram, expressing her feelings of loneliness and unhappiness.

A few hours after her post went out, the Brazilian’s agent spoke to the Telegraph, slamming United for initiating the disrespectful and ill-timed loan talks with NWSL outfits.

Geyse’s representative insisted that Skinner and United can’t count on the forward any longer and it’s best for all parties that they part ways.

It recently emerged that United are in talks with Gotham FC over a loan deal for Geyse.

Ahead of the Red Devils’ Adobe Women’s FA Cup clash with Sunderland on Saturday, Skinner finally broke his silence on the ongoing controversy.

The United manager told reporters [via 90min], “I stress that the club has offered a fantastic amount of support and will continue to do so. She’s at the centre of that from a wellbeing perspective.”

“I am open to conversation any time. If players feel like that, then all I can say is, there is always opportunity. The beauties of social media also has its downfalls because you can play out your emotions and thoughts and processes there as well.”

“I have worked with a lot of players over my time, and I think the majority will have lots of good things to express.”

“I am not here to justify myself. I have really good relationships with my players. The door is always open and I will reiterate this on camera now, my door is always open if people want to have a conversation and it’s theirs to choose if they wish to use that or not.”

Asked about Geyse’s links to Gotham, Skinner answered, “We will find a solution that will suit both parties and we’ll make sure during that time that Geyse is absolutely looked after and has all the care that she needs.”

On the explosive remarks made by Geyse’s agent, Skinner explained, “I won’t be using this platform to have a conversation about that.”

“It’s really clear that right now Geyse is at the centre of what we’re talking about. Through action, we’ll show that we will continue to support Geyse during an absolutely difficult time. The support that has been is absolutely there for everybody to see.”

Looking ahead to the clash with Sunderland, Skinner stated, “We absolutely want to respect the opponent, we will take the game as serious as any other game we play.”

“We are playing against an opponent, yes people may see they are in a lower division but knowing (manager Melanie Reay) and the way she sets up her teams they’ll be full of passion and right up for the game.”

“I think she is a great role model for women’s football, I have a lot of respect for her and her teams.”

United vs. Sunderland kicks off at 17:15 GMT on Saturday.
