Manchester United approach Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta over a summer transfer, as per reports.
Plans to strengthen United’s attack appear to be well underway, with the club’s recruitment team understood to be following multiple targets.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have an agreement in place to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ipswich Town star Liam Delap, meanwhile, has emerged as the club’s priority option to strengthen the striker position. But he is not the only number nine being looked at.
According to CaughtOffside, Mateta is one of United’s top targets.
Further, it is claimed that initial contact has already been made with the French striker, who is enjoying a prolific 2025 in South London.
The 27-year-old scored a brilliant goal in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday to take his Premier League tally to 14. He has been involved in 20 goals across all competitions.
In March, The Peoples Person covered a report suggesting United have opened talks with Palace to explore the possibility of signing their talisman.
It seems the Red Devils could push for Mateta should they fail to sign Delap, especially since David Ornstein has confirmed that Victor Osimhen is not on the club’s agenda heading into the summer.
The 6ft 4in forward brilliantly uses his frame to hold the ball up. At the same time, he is always on the move and could prove to be a dream option for Bruno Fernandes who consistently tries to find forwards in dangerous positions as soon as he receives the ball.
However, United are likely to face strong competition as there is plenty of interest in Mateta, with Palace already “lining up a replacement” in case he leaves.
Both Bayern Munich and Juventus are following the Palace star, with the former viewing him as a potential Harry Kane replacement.
