Andre Onana is facing one of the toughest stretches since arriving at Manchester United in 2023, with mounting criticism over costly errors. Now, as rumors link the Cameroonian goalkeeper with a move to the Saudi Pro League, United are reportedly eyeing a $52 million replacement.

The Red Devils are enduring one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory, plagued by poor finishing up front and recurring defensive lapses. Onana’s recent blunders—particularly in the Europa League clash against Olympique Lyon—have intensified the search for alternatives ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, Manchester United have identified Zion Suzuki as their top target to replace Onana. The Japanese international has a reported price tag of £40 million ($52 million), and despite his young age—just 22—United are said to be seriously considering a move.

Manager Ruben Amorim dropped Onana for the recent Premier League match against Newcastle United, turning to backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. However, a 4-1 thrashing and another individual error have only fueled speculation that United are preparing to make a change between the posts.

Suzuki has been a standout for Parma this season, making 31 appearances, conceding 46 goals, and keeping six clean sheets. His performances have been a key factor in keeping the club out of the relegation zone. He also helped Japan qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, solidifying his reputation as one of the top young goalkeepers in world soccer.

Andre Onana and the links with Saudi

Despite a turbulent season filled with errors, Onana continues to attract attention from abroad. Saudi clubs have long expressed interest in the former Inter Milan shot-stopper, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that a renewed push could come during the summer window.

Onana’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain. While Amorim continues to support the goalkeeper publicly, he acknowledged the need for a mental reset. “Tomorrow, he will be in training to prepare for the next game so I felt that it was a good time for Andre to disconnect,” he said on Sunday.

Still, it’s widely understood that Onana’s playing style doesn’t align with Amorim’s preferred profile for the position. If the mistakes continue, United may be forced to accelerate their search for a new No. 1—and Suzuki appears to be at the top of the list.
