So dire was Manchester United’s PSR situation during the January window that INEOS took the bold step of putting the club’s brightest young talents up for sale.

Both Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, considered untouchable last summer, were up for grabs and plenty of teams were in for the Argentine.

Both Napoli and Chelsea ultimately failed in their attempts to land the 20-year-old, who impressed Ruben Amorim with his work-rate and desire both on and off the pitch.

But INEOS still remain open to moving both on in the summer and should the United No 17 depart, it seems the Red Devils have already found his perfect replacement.

Cunha seen as Garnacho’s replacement

Amorim is a big admirer of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, who single-handedly demolished the 20-time English league champions during their last visit to the Molineux.

The Brazilian can play up front as well as an attacking midfielder and his profile perfectly fits in with what Amorim wants from his forward players.

He had signed a contract extension with Wolves recently but his new deal includes a release clause worth £62 million which the Red Devils are looking to trigger in the event Garnacho does leave in the summer.

Arsenal are also present in the race but United are confident that should they approach the ex-Atletico Madrid star’s camp, he would jump at the opportunity to come to Manchester.

“Manchester United will turn their attentions towards raiding Wolverhampton Wanderers if Alejandro Garnacho is among the big-names to quit Old Trafford in the summer as Matheus Cunha has been pinpointed as a target when plans have been made ahead of the transfer window reopening, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Cunha would love to join

“GMS sources have been informed that Manchester United are eyeing a move for Cunha after they have been long-term admirers and, having seen him prove his worth in the Premier League during his spell at Wolves, feel he has the experience and style to immediately enhance their attacking threat.

“Influential figures at Manchester United are optimistic that Cunha will be open to heading to Old Trafford after he previously showed an interest in joining fellow top flight giants Arsenal, GMS sources have learned, while he insisted on including a release clause in his improved contract due to not wanting to see a big opportunity pass him by.”

Despite playing for a club fighting relegation, the 25-year-old has been a revelation, scoring 13 times while also registering four assists.

He seems to switch on for the big games as seen from the Brazil international netting against the likes of Chelsea, league leaders Liverpool not to mention Amorim’s side, something that the club would love to add.
