Victor Osimhen transfer decision puts Manchester United in driving seat – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are trying to sign Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City in a cut-price deal, as per reports.

In recent weeks, Ndidi has emerged as a concrete option for the Red Devils, as Ruben Amorim looks to add steel to his midfield.

Under Erik ten Hag, Kobbie Mainoo was viewed as an integral part of United’s midfield. However, Amorim pushed the youngster higher up the pitch, owing to concerns over his physicality and ability to defend in the middle of the park.

Towards the end of the campaign, Amorim heavily relied on Casemiro, mainly because of the veteran midfielder’s physicality and defensive instincts.

It seems the United head coach is exploring the market for a similar profile of player and has set his sights on Ndidi.

According to Givemesport, United are battling Everton, Juventus, and Real Betis for the signature of the Nigeria international.

The 28-year-old is headed to the Championship with Leicester City despite enjoying a brilliant individual season in England’s top flight.

Known for his interceptions, recoveries, and ground coverage, Ndidi was one of the few shining lights at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes face an uphill task to keep hold of their prized asset. The Nigerian signed a new three-year contract at the club only last summer, but the deal includes an escape clause. Following Leicester’s relegation, Ndidi is now available for a £9 million fee.

Interestingly, the report suggests that his suitors are hoping for a discount and are “trying to do a deal for around £5m.”

It is added: “Sources have confirmed that part of the reason for clubs aiming to lower the fee is due to his high wages, making the overall deal expensive.”

Considering Amorim’s squad dynamics and Ndidi’s qualities, his signing would be seen as a real coup by the Mancunians if they manage to convince Leicester to part ways with their midfielder for a fee in the region of £5m.
