Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly set to be sidelined for six weeks as he recovers from an injury picked up in training.

On Saturday, it emerged that Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer would miss Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur due to fitness issues.

It was relayed that Mainoo’s injury was a bit serious compared to Collyer and Ugarte, who were only major doubts for the contest in North London.

Indeed, neither of the three players was on the matchday squad, forcing Ruben Amorim to name eight kids on the bench.

Ayden Heaven, Harry Amass, Sekou Kone, Elyh Samuel Harrison, Tyler Fredricson, Chido Obi, Jack Fletcher and Jack Lee Moorhouse were all in the matchday squad as United suffered a 1-0 loss, courtesy of a 13th-minute strike from James Maddison.

Defender Victor Lindelof was the only senior substitute available, with Christian Eriksen and Leny Yoro also unavailable because of illness.

Before the match, Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail revealed that Mainoo will be out for around six weeks.

Ruben Amorim spoke to the media and addressed the setback suffered by Mainoo.

The United boss said [via The Sun], “Amad’s [injury] was alone, Ugarte’s was a kick. Toby [Collyer] and Kobbie [Mainoo] felt something.”

“It is what it is, but we have the kids, and they have the opportunity to be on the bench.”

“It is a really hard season and we have to deal with that.”

United’s defeat to Tottenham has left them in 15th position in the Premier League table. The Red Devils have lost 12 of their 25 Premier League games this season – their most defeats from their first 25 matches of a league campaign since 1973/74 (13).

1973/74 is the season United were last relegated from the top flight.
