Manchester United’s record in front of goal is pretty abysmal with the Red Devils managing 36 shots in their last two Premier League games without troubling the scorers.

In fact, Ruben Amorim’s side have outscored only five teams this season, pretty damning statistics for a club like United. Which is why the Portuguese tactician is desperate for attacking reinforcements.

Viktor Gyokeres was his first choice but the Swede has his eyes on playing in the Champions League, something that is not guaranteed at Old Trafford next season.

Victor Osimhen is the new favourite but owing to his wage demands, Saudi Pro League seems to be his likely next destination.

Liam Delap the new top choice

Which is why the 20-time English league champions are looking at more cost-effective options and Liam Delap of Ipswich Town fits the bill perfectly.

The former Manchester City ace is Premier League proven and is young and with the Tractor Boys on their way down to the Championship, he 22-year-old is likely to be available for a cut-price fee.

But Amorim needs more than just a striker, with even Rasmus Hojlund struggling for service at times. Which is why a creative force behind the No 9 is also needed.

And as per Givemesport, the three-time Champions League winners are also looking to add Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha in the same window.

Cunha also a target

“Manchester United are poised to open discussions with the representatives of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha over a potential move to Old Trafford alongside Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as preparations are made for the summer transfer window, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“GMS sources have been told that Manchester United are interested in landing Cunha in the same transfer window as Delap instead of only pushing ahead with securing one target.”

He has been the difference between Wolves being in the relegation zone and being 12 points clear at this stage. The Brazilian is quite the goal threat, with 15 goals in all competitions and four assists.

Amorim knows all about the 25-year-old after having seen him dominate the last time the two sides met this season, which resulted in a Wolves win.

Can United afford both?

The former Atletico Madrid ace dropped deep to link-up play, made the right choice of pass more often than not and eventually made the telling contribution in the game, scoring directly from a corner while also grabbing the assist for the second goal.

While his ability on the ball is impressive, his work-rate off the ball is also exceptional, which will please Amorim as well.

He has a release clause of £62.5 million, something the Red Devils could struggle to trigger given they also have other areas in the team in need of reinforcements. Face-to-face talks have been planned for the near future.

The forward has a lot of suitors but he is hell-bent on moving to a big club, with Nottingham Forest expected to be disappointed even if they qualify for the Champions League.

An interesting summer awaits United and it will be intriguing to see which players INEOS ultimately bring in to help the head coach.
