Manchester United are reportedly interested in Preston North End goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
Much has been written about Andre Onana’s erratic performances for the Red Devils, with many raising question marks over his ability to remain United’s number-one choice in goal next season.
However, his cover, Altay Bayindir has done little to challenge him for the starting spot, managing just six appearances across all competitions this term. The Turkey international could return to Süper Lig in the summer.
Meanwhile, third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton’s contract at United is due to expire in June.
Amid this, Ruben Amorim has started search for a new goalkeeper and is understood to be keen on adding a homegrown talent to his ranks.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, United have set their sights on Woodman as a summer transfer target.
The former England U20 international has been sidelined for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury sustained over the international break.
However, prior to his injury, United followed the 28-year-old, who had been enjoying a brilliant campaign under Paul Heckingbottom in the Championship. He kept 13 clean sheets in 37 league appearances.
His performances have seemingly impressed the hierarchy at Old Trafford, putting him in the frame for a move to United.
The North End star has previously played in the Premier League with Newcastle United, who sold him in 2022 after a number of underwhelming loan stints away from St James’ Park.
Woodman signed a three-year deal at Deepdale and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, making him an appealing target.
United are also monitoring Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper Aynsley Pears ahead of the summer transfer window.
