Manchester United are reportedly worried that reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain will snatch Victor Osimhen from their grasp.
A lack of goals has been a key issue for head coach Ruben Amorim, who is expected to dip into the market this summer for a new reliable striker.
Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to meet expectations since his £72m move from Atalanta in 2023, recently ending a 21-game goal drought by scoring his 24th goal in 82 appearances during United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.
Joshua Zirkzee was initially brought in to help Hojlund shoulder the burden of leading the line for United but the Dutchman seems to be thriving more in an attacking midfield role.
United’s interest in Osimhen dates back several years, and speculation surrounding him continues to intensify as the transfer window approaches. Currently on loan at Galatasaray after his unsuccessful attempt to leave Napoli last summer, Osimhen has seamlessly continued his form in Turkey’s top flight.
In 22 league appearances, the Nigerian superstar has managed 20 goals and four assists. Across all competitions, he has plundered 26 goals and provided five assists.
PSG are also known admirers of the 26-year-old and according to GIVMESPORT, United believe the Parisians are leading the race to land him in the summer.
GIVEMESPORT relay, “Manchester United fear Champions League quarter-finalists PSG in the race to sign Osimhen, according to GMS sources, as the French giants are seen as the frontrunners to get the deal over the line thanks to having the funds to meet his salary demands and a price tag in the region of £63million.
“GMS sources have been informed that Manchester United and fellow Premier League admirers Chelsea are most wary of PSG if it comes down to a tug-of-war for Osimhen – after a productive season in front of goal – thanks to the Parc des Princes-based outfit’s financial muscle.”
“GMS sources have been told that Manchester United have earmarked Osimhen as their dream target as they look to strengthen their options in the final third of the pitch, but they will have to see how the remainder of the season pans out before discovering whether he is within reach and would be interested in heading to Old Trafford instead of PSG.”
Another challenge for the Red Devils is Osimhen’s previously expressed interest in joining PSG, a desire that is likely to have grown given the club’s progress under Luis Enrique this season.
For Osimhen, there is also the appeal of a reunion with former Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who made the switch to PSG in January.
GMS note that PSG are in a position to “move quickly” to secure Osimhen’s services while United and other interested parties are not.
It’s been well-documented that Amorim’s side will need to sell before they can buy this summer. Nevertheless, United chiefs are preparing to kickstart talks with Osimhen’s camp to try and lure him to the Theatre of Dreams.
