Manchester United star Patrick Dorgu has made the decision to by a new name, adding Chinazaekpere to the back of his shirt.

Dorgu joined United during the winter transfer window from Serie A side Bologna and has demonstrated very promising signs of the player he can develop into.

He has made six appearances for United and in that time, has impressed with his incredible physicality, willingness to run relentlessly and desire to get involved in attacking play.

The 20-year-old enjoyed his best performance for the Red Devils in the return leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie with Real Sociedad. He was rampant down the right flank and won a penalty for United, which Bruno Fernandes dutifully converted.

Dorgu won a second spot-kick for his side after Hamari Traoré was adjudged to have brought him down but in a rare show of sportsmanship, the United defender went up to the referee and indicated that he had not been fouled. Ruben Amorim said he was proud of the player for being honest.

Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News reports that Dorgu has had a name change, and will from now henceforth be known as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu.

It’s understood that Dorgu’s full name has been added to his profile on the club’s website, teamsheets and the squad list on the back of the United Review programme.

Luckhurst adds, “United confirmed that the request came from Dorgu’s family as it relates to their heritage and religion.”

“Dorgu’s parents were born in Nigeria and Chinazaekpere roughly translates as ‘God answers prayers’ in Igbo.”

He is not the first United player to recently change his name.  17-year-old striker Chido Obi also removed ‘Martin’ from his name.

Having served his three-match ban after picking up a straight red card during the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town, Dorgu will finally be available to Amorim for selection when the Red Devils return to action after the international break.

United go away to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, April 1.
