Khadija Shaw continued her fine campaign with two goals in a 4-0 hammering of Liverpool as Manchester City triumphed at home for the first time in 2025.
The Women’s Super League’s leading scorer moved onto 11 league goals this season with a first-half double, both assisted by Mary Fowler, at Joie Stadium.
Jill Roord added the third goal for Gareth Taylor’s hosts on the hour before Gracie Prior sealed her first start in the competition with a fortunate finish 13 minutes from time.
Shaw’s opener came on the half-hour mark as City’s in-form striker latched onto Fowler’s cute reverse pass before firing past Teagan Micah.
The home side secured a deserved two-goal lead 13 minutes later when Fowler again teed up Shaw, who lashed a delightful half-volley home.
Vivianne Miedema was denied by Micah early in the second half, though the Liverpool goalkeeper had no chance when Roord reacted quickly to her own blocked volley and smashed the rebound into the far corner.
Prior capped a brilliant outing for hosts when she beat Taylor Hinds for pace before her right-wing cross fortuitously sailed over her team-mates, and Micah, to find the back of the net.
City’s comfortable win saw them secure their first victory on home turf this year, while they remain fourth in the table, three places but 13 points clear of Liverpool.

Data Debrief: Fowler makes WSL history
Fowler may not have got on the scoresheet but she made WSL history with her first-half double of assists.
She has now been involved in two or more goals in each of her last four WSL appearances for City (three goals, five assists), becoming the first player to do so in four straight games in the competition’s history.
Fowler’s creative brilliance was aided by deadly finisher Shaw, who has scored 61 goals in 69 league appearances under Taylor.
In WSL history, only Fran Kirby has ever scored more goals under one manager (63 under Emma Hayes), and Shaw is closing in on that record after another thumping performance for City.
