Manchester United have reportedly missed out on receiving a penalty payment from Real Betis as part of their loan agreement for Antony.

Antony, who signed for United in the summer of 2022 from Ajax in a deal worth over £82 million, has endured a dramatic change in fortunes at Betis since joining them during the January transfer window.

After falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag, Antony also struggled to find a place in Ruben Amorim’s plans, prompting his move to Real Betis in pursuit of regular first-team football.

The Brazilian has looked like a player reborn in Spain, managing an impressive four goals and as many assists in 15 appearances across all competitions. Unsurprisingly, Betis are believed to be keen on extending his stay with them. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Manuel Pellegrini’s side have entered “advanced negotiations” to secure a permanent transfer.

The player has also expressed his desire to continue at Estadio Benito Villamarín. He previously claimed in an interview that he is happier there and is finally enjoying his football again after a difficult spell with United.

As part of the loan deal that sent Antony to Real Betis, the Spanish club are covering 84% of his wages, which amount to approximately £140,000 per week.

However, according to ABC Sevilla, there was a clause inserted that Betis would need to pay a £479,000 loan fee to United if he made less than 15 appearances.

The 25-year-old reached that milestone on Sunday, as Los Verdiblancos fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Villarreal.

As a result, Betis have avoided paying the penalty.

ABC Sevilla confirm that Betis are indeed poised to engage United in a bid to make the Antony move a permanent one.

Last month, The i Paper revealed that United want £40m to sanction Antony’s exit.

The forward has also been linked to Real Sociedad, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid, indicating no shortage of potential suitors.
