Manchester United star Luke Shaw is reportedly set to return to training in just a few days, with his fresh injury setback not as bad as initially feared.

Shaw hasn’t started for United since he was taken off with an injury during a win over Luton Town in February last year.

He made a brief return to action towards the end of 2024, making three substitute appearances under Ruben Amorim.

The England international didn’t last for long as he sustained another injury, which has kept him sidelined since. He was back in first-team training last week, sparking hopes that he was close to playing competitive fixtures once again.

This optimism was dashed earlier today after it emerged that Shaw had suffered a fresh setback, which would keep him out for an additional four weeks, depending on treatment and rehab.

However, it appears that the issue is not very serious.

Daily Mail journalist Chris Wheeler wrote on X, “Luke Shaw has suffered a setback in his return from injury but understand it’s not too serious. Could be back in training by early next week.”

This was corroborated by The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath who noted, “Luke Shaw will be back training on Monday, according to Manchester United sources.”

“Club have been cautious over 29yr-old returning to action after two months out.”

“Will miss FA Cup clash against Leicester but training at Carrington start of next week.”

United and Amorim will be hoping that this time round, Shaw manages to sustain a run of games without picking up an injury.

His return to the action will undoubtedly be heralded by Amorim, especially after the loss of Lisandro Martinez. A report covered by The Peoples Person related that Martinez tore his anterior cruciate ligament, meaning he will not play again this season.

Shaw can fill in at left-centre-back, ensuring that Martinez’s absence is not felt too sorely.
