Could You Knock It Closer With The New Odyssey Chipper?

Loch Lomond Whiskies, ‘The Spirit of The Open’ since 2018, has unveiled two new limited-edition single malts this year to celebrate The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush. The Open Course Collection 2025 and The Open Course Special Edition 2025 pay tribute this year’s host venue and golf’s original Championship through the distillery’s renowned innovation and craftsmanship.

This longstanding partnership with The R&A and Loch Lomond Whiskies reflects a shared commitment to tradition, quality, and excellence – values that define both the sport of golf, The Open and the art of whisky-making.

The Open Course Collection 2025 is a 22-year-old single malt, aged in American Oak barrels and hogsheads before finishing in hand-selected first-fill Spanish oak casks – a nod to the Spanish Armada ship, La Girona, which sank off the Royal Portrush coast in 1588. Distilled using Loch Lomond’s unique straight-neck stills, the whisky delivers notes of cinnamon, spice, fruit, honey, and soft smoke.

The Open Course Special Edition 2025 explores the influence of Tuscan Chianti wine casks on Loch Lomond’s signature style. Finished for eight months in first-fill Chianti casks, it brings depth with rich red fruit flavours, honey, peach, and soft oak tannins.

“These expressions perfectly capture Loch Lomond’s explorative and innovative spirit,” said Michael Henry, Master Blender of Loch Lomond Whisky. “The final character of each of these fine single malts is unmistakably Loch Lomond, and the experimentation with Spanish oak and Chianti casks is indicative of our capability to push the boundaries in flavour creation.”

Perfect for whisky enthusiasts and golf fans alike, these special editions make an ideal accompaniment while watching The 153rd Open as well as a treasured piece of memorabilia to commemorate this iconic Championship.

Both expressions were created in collaboration with Scottish golf legend and Loch Lomond Whiskies ambassador Colin Montgomerie, whose signature adorns each pack.

“It’s been a pleasure working with Michael once again to create these popular limited-edition expressions which mark another special occasion the golfing calendar,” added Colin Montgomerie.

“There is a lot of synergy between golf and the art of whisky-making. Both require dedication to the craft, passion, and a willingness to take risks, which Loch Lomond Whiskies do so well.

The ongoing releases of new limited-edition whiskies celebrate this year’s Open venue, and the event’s esteemed legacy in such a wonderful way, and it has been a joy to be a part of the experience once again.”

“We are proud to continue our valued relationship with Loch Lomond Group across The Open and the AIG Women’s Open. Aligning with partners who share our vision for the championships and for golf to thrive is integral to our success,” said Henry Keeling, Commercial Partnerships Director at The R&A.

“Partnering with Loch Lomond Whiskies to celebrate The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush is another milestone in our storied collaboration.

These two special edition single malts are a tribute to this year’s venue, and a celebration of the rich and historic correlation between golf and whisky – perfectly capturing the spirit of the game and the prestigious history of The Open. Loch Lomond Whisky is a brand that shares our passion for excellence and tradition, and we look forward to raising a glass to what promises to be an unforgettable Open.”

The Open Course Collection 2025 (RRP £250) and The Open Course Special Edition 2025 (RRP £45) are available from April 2025 at and select retailers.
