Mbappé absent from last training before Club World Cup debut: Will he play against Al-Hilal?

Former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is about to leave Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli for Qatari club Al-Sadd, according to a report.

Al-Ahli did not register Firmino, who joined them in July 2023 following the end of his Reds deal, for the second half of the last Saudi Pro League season.

The 33-year-old is under contract until 2026 but will join the Qatar Stars League on a two-year deal, Al-Riyadh sources said.

Roberto Firmino Liverpool goals record

Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2015 and scored 111 goals in 362 games, winning every major domestic trophy once.

The three-time Champions League finalist with the club started as Jurgen Klopp’s team secured European Glory by beating Tottenham 2-0 in 2018/19.

He remains the all-time leading Brazilian scorer in the Premier League with 82 goals, although new Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha matched his single-season top-flight record for a player from the country with 15 for Wolves in 2024/25.

Firmino stats: Al Ahli Champions League title

Firmino joined Al-Ahli shortly after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns Newcastle United, took over four clubs in the country.

He produced 12 goals and 10 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions in 2024/25, including 13 direct involvements in 12 matches as his club won the AFC Champions League.

As captain for that campaign, Firmino started each of their last seven games in the competition, including two goals and three assists during the knockout stage.

Two of those assists came in the final, setting up goals by Galeno and Franck Kessie in a 2-0 win over Kawasaki Frontale.

Al Ahli record, squad

Al-Ahli finished third in Firmino’s first season, helped by nine goals and six assists in 32 appearances by their captain, who was almost ever-present during the second half of the season.

The Royals finished fifth in 2024/25 under German manager Matthias Jaissle, 16 points behind champions Al-Ittihad.

Former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez directly contributed to 36 goals in 45 appearances, while Ivan Toney, who signed from Brentford for £40 million in August, scored 30 times.

England forward Toney was the second-highest scorer in the Saudi Pro League behind Al-Nassr talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.
