According to the Mirror, Liverpool have emerged as the frontrunners in the race for the services of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
As things stand at the moment, Liverpool may need to replace Virgil van Dijk this summer, with the Netherlands captain yet to reach an agreement with the club over a new contract as his current one approaches its expiration date at the end of June. Guehi, who has established himself as a regular England starter and played a major role for his country at the Euros last year, does seem as close as anyone to being a good replacement for the brilliant Van Dijk.
Palace were in a strong position to reject all advances for Guehi last year and they reportedly threw back whatever Newcastle offered – on several occasions. Chelsea are also believed to be keen to bring the 24-year-old, whom they sold to Palace in 2021, back to Stamford Bridge, but Guehi himself apparently prefers Anfield as his destination.
As for Palace, their position to reject offers isn’t as strong anymore, with just over a year remaining on Guehi’s contract.
