Les Snead Says Contract Extension For Kyren Williams ‘On The Plate’ This Offseason

Welsh team reach play-offs without playing as another club’s hopes dashed

The Los Angeles Rams’ 2024 season may officially be over, but there’s optimism that this team will be able to compete for a Super Bowl next year.

The Rams were one possession away from advancing to the NFC Championship, but came up just short on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles. Los Angeles’ struggled in the poor weather conditions, but still found ways to put the team in a position to win.

There are several important question marks the Rams need to address this offseason, namely Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, but there’s also some uncertainty regarding Kyren Williams’ long-term future with the organization. Williams turned in his first fully healthy season this past year and is now extension-eligible as he heads into the final year of his rookie deal.

General manager Les Snead has a long offseason of himself though he revealed that the team is open to extending Williams, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“I think that’s something that’s going to be on the plate,” Snead said. “He would be someone that after three years you could begin discussing, let’s call it, renegotiating, starting anew. Because I do think Kyren is someone who is a Ram and has a very impactful role for us.”

Despite Blake Corum’s presence on the roster, Snead added that having multiple running backs would help keep both he and Williams fresh:

“I think we would probably take the philosophy that you’re going to need more than one running back, so we’ll always try to keep that room somewhat healthy in terms of depth,” Snead said. “Even with Kyren, he’s had two great years, but there is a possibility, right, where he needs a partner to take some load off of him. He’s probably played more than any running back over the last two years, so that’s something to think about.”

Although Williams isn’t the fastest or biggest running back, he’s got quick feet and knows how decisively hit gaps. He’s also excellent on passing downs as either a targer or a blocker up front.

Williams is an integral part of the offense who deserves to stay in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future.

Sean McVay wants to know Matthew Stafford’s status for 2025 season sooner than later

Following the loss to the Eagles, Stafford noted he still feels like he has good football left in him though remained uncertain about his future in L.A. Head coach Sean McVay said he prefers to know Stafford’s status for the 2025 season sooner than later and for good reason as the quarterback’s contract situation lingered until training camp last year.
