Report: Man United considering surprise transfer move for 18 G/A attacker

Vincent Kompany lauded Bayern Munich’s “hungry” response after ending a two-game windless streak with Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Michael Olise, Hiroki Ito, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry were all on target as Bayern restored their eight-point advantage at the Bundesliga summit with a crushing win over third-placed Eintracht.

Kompany’s side had been held by defending champions Bayer Leverkusen in the league before their midweek Champions League draw with Celtic that sent them through to the knockout stages.

A comfortable win over Eintracht, who mustered just two shots on target at the Allianz Arena, was the perfect response to those draws in the eyes of boss Kompany.

“Now we have won but we will stay calm as we did the last few days [after the two draws],” Kompany told a press conference.

“The couple of days leading into the game we felt the team was sharper. There were a lot of reasons for us to get a result today.

“The intensity from both sides was pretty high from the start and we managed to tilt the game in our favour. The players showed they were hungry.

“The effort, the enthusiasm – it was all there. Our aim is always to bring that onto the pitch. And now we go calmly into the next game, where we want to win again.”

Bayern failed to score in their draw with Xabi Alonso’s side, who are chasing in second place, before snatching a last-gasp leveller thanks to Alphonso Davies’ goal against Celtic.

Eintracht offered little in the way of resistance, however, with Bayern smashing 12 shots on target and accumulating 4.01 expected goals in a one-sided clash.

The win may have been expected, though, given Kompany’s side have now defeated Eintracht 43 times at home in Bundesliga action, the most such wins of any side against another in the competition’s history.

“Obviously a win of this manner is a lot more fun,” Bayern veteran Thomas Muller added. “We sense how games are going and how it feels.

“At this stage of the season, it’s only the results that count.

“But of course, you also want to go home and say: ‘Wow, today we were really good.’ We deserved to win and played with high intensity.”
