After suffering the first loss of his professional boxing career against Canelo Alvarez in Sept. 2014 (see it again here), Edgar Berlanga returned to action last night (Sat., March 15, 2025) against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in Orlando, Fla.

And he returned to his winning ways by securing a blistering first round knockout over a man who only returned to action in 2024 after serving a 10-year prison stint for armed robbery. After dropping Gonzalez-Ortiz with a vicious left hook, Berlanga dropped him a second time a few moments later with a three-punch combination. After once again taking a count, Gonzalez-Ortiz ate another vicious left hand which put an end to the fight.

Before the fight, however, Berlanga missed weight by 1.6 pounds, which means he was ineligible to win the vacant NABO super middleweight title. After missing weight, Berlanga revealed he had battling the flu, which lead to his scale fail.

Afterward, Berlanga took to the mic and called out everybody from Jermall Charlo, Caleb Plant and a rematch against Canelo Alvarez. While a performance like that will fill anyone with confidence, a rematch against Alvarez will likely never happen.
