Knicks fans held a championship parade in the streets of Manhattan ahead of their second-round matchup with the Celtics

Thunder Steal Game 4 In Indiana

Thursday’s Game 6 win in Detroit cemented the New York Knicks as the second-round opponent for your Boston Celtics. Along with the Knicks, who lost to the Celtics all four times they met this season, come the saddest people on the planet — their fans.

I’m sure you’ve seen the videos. These people are so starved for any sort of success that they’ll hold a championship parade in the streets of Manhattan after winning a first-round playoff series.

Now, I had been planning this article for a few days, knowing what was to come. Yet, somehow, they’ve outdone themselves this time and it feels sadder. Instead of waiting until they eliminated the Pistons, Knicks fans decided they’d do the “We Want Boston” chants after LOSING Game 5 at home.

Celtics fans have grown used to the chants of defiance. For the past few seasons, opposing fanbases have shouted these famous last words ahead of each playoff series. Of course, everyone who has wanted Boston, got them.

As a matter of fact, Knicks fans are the only fanbase that has performed the ritual without actually earning their shot to take on the Cs. Some of you will remember last year, when they preemptively held one of their sacred parades outside of Madison Square Garden (the one that lacks banners), before being sent home by the Indiana Pacers.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, the Larryless are a pathetic bunch. It’s remarkable what going over 50 years without seeing a franchise win a title will do to people. They’re so deprived that they’ve created this myth that the NBA is better when their team is good.

There’s no way that that can be true. I’ve been watching the league for the better part of my 26 years and have always enjoyed it. Yet, the Knicks have only been good for what, six seasons, maybe??

They’ll continue their tradition of losing against the Celtics in the upcoming round and then their fans can think about how much they’ll “Want Boston” next spring.
