Most Valuable Promotions announced today the historic trilogy between Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) and Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) is set to take place on Friday, July 11th at the venue where their first match in 2022 took place, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The first two matches were record-breaking and the third could potentially be even bigger. The match will headline the first ever all-women’s boxing card at the iconic venue and similar to the second match, will broadcast for free to Netflix 300 million subscribers.
The match will be contested in 10, two-minute rounds. The first two matches were action-packed wars, which were highly contested, many believe either match could have been awarded to Amanda Serrano. The first match at Madison Square Garden in New York City saw them throw nearly 1,000 punches between the two with Taylor edging out the victory via a split decision. With judges scoring it 97-93 and 96-33 for Taylor and the third scoring it 96-94 for Serrano. In their second match at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Amanda outlanded Katie 324 to 217 respectively.
With Serrano landing 58.2 percent of her power punches (Compubox). Serrano suffered a nasty cut over her right eye that was caused by a headbutt, Taylor was deducted a point later in the fight for excessive headbutting. Despite suffering a point deduction and being outlanded, all three judges awarded Taylor the decision with all of them scoring it 95-94, calling for the third match.
“I’m disappointed that Katie Taylor did not keep her word and make the trilogy 12, three minute rounds, equal to the men. This is a record-setting payday for both of us, and we owed it to the fans to honor the handshake deal we made. She didn’t. But make no mistake, every time we share the ring, it is war, and I know Friday, July 11 will be the greatest yet because I will finally get the official W, I deserve,” said Amanda of the trilogy.
For the 38-year-old Taylor, she’s looking to close the chapter on what has been an epic rivalry between her and Serrano. “I want to thank everyone at Matchroom, MVP and Netflix for getting the trilogy over the line and I can’t wait to headline at MSG again in July. “I’m 2 and 0 against Amanda but it’s obviously a very special rivalry that delivers every time we step in the ring, so I think it’s only right that we have the trilogy,” said Katie of their upcoming match
