John Terry says what everyone else has been saying, listen to him

Welcome John Terry, to my all star lineup of former professional footballers who have all stated the very obvious that we can all see – this squad needs proven and quality experience added to it in key areas to really kick on.

Terry joins a lineup that consists of Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda, John Obi Mikel, and countless more I have forgotten about (I should have actually made the list and jotted it down).

It’s obvious to everybody. Whilst young players will eventually mature, why would you not want to help them along the way and give ourselves and even better chance of success right now?

Enough from me, I’ll let the best ever Chelsea player, the captain, leader, and legend of the club, explain it all….

Terry swerved questions on Liam Delap and instead answered:

“I think Nico has been really good, firstly. When I watch him play, he’s only one of a handful of strikers in the league that plays on the shoulder. As a defender, that’s a nightmare it opens up space. I like Nico.

“If you are looking at the next step, you need someone proven and who has scored goals in the Premier League.

“Usually that’s an experienced player but the owners are clear, they don’t want to bring in someone of 29, 30 years of age on big money. It’s a different model. I personally feel we need that.

“I think we’re a couple of years off [challenging for the title]. I really do. I don’t want that to be headline stuff but I look at Man City, Liverpool – they’re stronger. Arsenal have been consistent.

“This is why securing Champions League football is big for us, getting those players in with experience and some back up if Cole does drop off slightly to take responsibility away from him. Three or four big players in and we’ll be better for it.

“Now we invite press too often, other teams do it. Man City have a lot to answer for, they’re the best at it but other teams try to do it and they can’t. The fans are frustrated with that over time.

“We’ve managed to secure fourth, good experience from the boys. Making signings and attracting players is big next year.”

He also spoke about other things such as Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, and his own coaching career that has stalled.

“I applied for lower league jobs, we’re not talking Premier League or Championship. Sunderland was one of them [when they were in League One]. It was the best one I’d interviewed for. We have a bit of a disagreement on overplaying.”

On Caicedo and Fernandez:

“Caicedo’s been excellent. First season, few months, he wasn’t the player from Brighton. Sometimes when you arrive at a big club, you’re too keen to impress. I’ve seen him this year, he’s been superb.

“Enzo is a big player as well, a big game player. Cucurella as well. As a Chelsea fan, which I am now, I say I’d take 11 of you week in week out.

“I think we’re good enough to do it [win Conference League final]. We’re young and inexperienced, which is good for the football club if that makes sense. In these big games that can go against you but that’s the only thing.

“They rose to the challenge on the weekend in front of the Forest crowd. They rose to the occasion and they can do it again.”

And on Cucurella:

“Cucurella; every time I see him, as a Chelsea fan which I am, I would take 11 of him week in week out because the attitude and the way he defends is world class.”

Some fantastic quotes from Terry that simply CANNOT fall on deaf ears.

LEGEND!
