John McCarthy advises Colby Covington towards preventing Gilbert Burns.

Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) misplaced his second consecutive battle when he suffered a third-round physician stoppage TKO to Joaquin Buckley within the UFC on ESPN 63 headliner earlier this month at Amalie Area in Tampa, Fla. McCarthy shuts down the narrative that Covington was rallying earlier than the physician intervened to cease the battle as a result of nasty gash on his eyelid.

“There was a pair issues in that battle, watching it,” McCarthy mentioned on his “Weighing-In” podcast. “First off, Colby took an ass whooping. He completely confirmed he’s a troublesome human being, he’s a troublesome man, he doesn’t f*cking whine in the course of the battle. He’s going after it, he’s making an attempt, however , he was minimize in a number of spots.

“He was minimize throughout the forehead, he was minimize contained in the precise begin of the eyelid, which is what triggered them (docs) concern. Chael can say what he desires to. He wasn’t coming near profitable that battle. He wasn’t coming again. He was getting the sh*t beat out him. The battle was simply going to proceed on within the course it was.”

Covington proceeded to name out Burns (22-8 MMA, 15-8 UFC) after the battle. Though Burns can also be on a dropping skid, McCarthy thinks it’s a foul matchup for Covington.

“You’ve obtained to be trustworthy. There was a distinction that has occurred with Colby in that generally guys let their profession slide by whereas they’re doing all of the shucking, jiving, speaking, and stuff, and it’s nice, however you’re not preventing. And he hasn’t gotten higher,” McCarthy mentioned. “He has gotten worse. I’m simply going to be as trustworthy as I can. He has slowed down. He’s not as quick.

“His entries when he tries for a takedown will not be as deep. He doesn’t get the place he used to get. All of these issues are going to work towards him in anyone he fights. And if he fights Gilbert, does he need to take Gilbert down? It’s not a simple place to be. I’m not saying he can’t get away with presumably not getting submitted, however he’s positively placing himself into the crock pot as a result of it’s scorching. On the toes, Gilbert has extra energy, and I feel he has extra pace.”
