The Golden State Warriors are rolling as the season moves on. Since the arrival of Jimmy Butler, the Warriors are 18-2 when he plays next to Stephen Curry. This has some Warriors fans excited about the prospect of the dynamic duo together in the playoffs.
One name on the team that’s been a question mark since Butler’s arrival is Jonathan Kuminga. His output prior to Butler’s arrival showcased him being on an upward trajectory to a potential All-Star one day.
Teammates Draymond Green and Curry spoke highly of Kuminga, as he showcased his ability to be a good option on the floor. Unfortunately, an ankle injury kept Kuminga sidelined for over two months, which completely changed the way his season went.
Jonathan Kuminga Could Seek Major Deal
While reports over the season said that Kuminga could be seeking a 5-year, $224 million deal, there’s no way to know if that’s his intent at the time. The Warriors seem ready to make a decision at season’s end on Kuminga’s future, but they could be far apart on specifics.

While this report isn’t fully confirmed, it is speculated that Kuminga is seeking a major deal, but his play since his return hasn’t showcased that he’s worth that deal he might be seeking.
Kuminga is in the final year of his 4-year, $24,855,347 deal, which, at one point, he outplayed. Now, with the injury and his recovery not going as well as planned, Kuminga faces a tough road in the offseason. His only saving grace could be playing a good role in the postseason to help the Warriors win.
Can The Warriors Win It All?
The Warriors have surged following the All-Star break, climbing from the 10th seed to the 5th seed. They’ve picked up some big wins, but this next stretch of games will determine their season. Can the Warriors defeat the Lakers, Nuggets, and Rockets?
If they’re able to defeat all three, their ceiling might be higher in the playoffs than we realize. Butler, Curry, and Green are focused and seem prepared for the next challenge ahead.
Can Kuminga, Moses Moody, Gary Payton II, Brandin Podziemski, and Quinten Post provide them with enough backup to make a serious run at the championship? Kevon Looney will be needed for this potential championship run as well, considering his experience with the team.
The Warriors have an interesting road ahead. Will they add another title to their run? Time will tell.
