Jayson Tatum suffered a right leg injury late in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s 121-113 loss by the Boston Celtics to the New York Knicks in Game 4. Tatum was carried off the court with 2:58 remaining, unable to put weight on his right leg. Tatum will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
The injury occurred while Tatum was pursuing a loose ball and became entangled with Knicks forward OG Anunoby. Tatum immediately grabbed the back of his right ankle area, visibly in significant pain and unable to stand.
Team officials helped Tatum to his feet during a timeout after Anunoby scored on the subsequent possession. The Celtics’ medical staff assisted him to the locker room as he put no weight on his injured leg.
Before exiting, Tatum had scored 42 points on 16-for-28 shooting. The Celtics now trail 3-1 in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series with Game 5 on Wednesday back in Boston. The Celtics had built a 14-point lead before New York mounted their second-half comeback.
